Fatima was born and raised in San Francisco de Macoris, a northeast city located in the Cibao region of the country, and moved to neighboring La Unión, Sosua at age 18. Fatima graduated from Liceo Gregorio Luperon in Charamicos, Sosua and went on to study early childhood education for 2 years at UASD in Puerto Plata. Her experience working at a local Sosua eatery and enthusiasm for children made her a perfect candidate to join the Cabarete Coffee Company team. Fatima joined the team for the first time in 2015 through 2018 and after taking a break to spend time with her children and focus on other endeavors, returned in the spring of 2022. The majority of Fatima’s kitchen experience has been with traditional Dominican cuisine, but she has enjoyed getting to learn about other cultures through food and has mastered all that Cabarete Coffee Company has to offer.

In particular, Fatima loves working behind the espresso machine and has undergone significant training. She was originally trained as a barista by Lance Nichols, coffee aficionado and expert from Ithaca, New York who is an SCAA (Speciality Coffee Association of America) Certified Lab Inspector and Certified Q Grader by the Coffee Quality Institute and assists new businesses with coffee program development and training. Fatima went on to receive further training by manager and barista, Karina Anderson. A proud mother to two children, Fatima is an extremely thoughtful colleague and believes that the key to life is avoiding conflict and always being respectful of others and your surroundings.
