Eva Torres

Grounds Maintenance

A Cabarete native, Eva was raised in Cabarete where she has lived her entire life. Coming from a humble local family, she is one of nine siblings. Eva has three children, two daughters and one son, that she has raised on her own. Her oldest daughter has graduated from Mariposa programs and her youngest daughter is still in programs. Eva joined the Mariposa team in 2019 and is one of the only, if not the only, female groundskeepers and gardeners employed in the town of Cabarete. Eva is an expert gardener and attributes the majority of her knowledge to tending to her own garden and to her parent’s flowers growing up. Eva recounts that she used to get into arguments with her late father because she would plant flowers and then cut them once they bloomed and her father would ask “Why are you planting such beautiful flowers only to cut them down?” She believes there is much beauty in the natural world. While grounds maintenance and gardening are Eva’s primary talents, she helps out wherever she is needed including occasionally with the pool and in the kitchen. Eva prides herself in being of service and treating everyone fairly and with respect. Her favorite part of her work is watching the Mariposa girls learn and learning from them. Eva sees the Mariposa Center as a place that has helped her to better develop her mind, be open with everyone, and where she can leave her problems at home, express herself freely, and demonstrate her happiness.
