Edisleba Garcia ‘15

Elementary and Middle School Teacher

Edisleba, also known as Edileisa, was born in Veragua and grew up in Callejón de la Loma, Cabarete alongside her sister and fellow Mariposa staff member, Fernanda Garcia. Edisleba joined Mariposa programs when she was 13 years old and graduated from high school and programs in 2015. She then went on to study Early Childhood Education at UTESA, Recinto Gaspar Hernández and spent several years working as a teacher. Edisleba specialized in Montessori education for 3-6 year olds and spent four years working at a Montessori school. She also spent time as a fertilization assistant for APAL corals, working to restore coral reefs locally in Sosua. Edisleba has already given so much back to her community and her impact continues to amplify.

Edisleba’s favorite part of her work is getting to help the Mariposa girls develop new skills and watching them advance in their abilities. Her desire to do good is further emphasized through her passion for the environment and Edisleba would like to pursue her Master’s degree in Environmental Education one day. She loves being surrounded by nature and one of her lifelong goals is to hike Pico Duarte, the highest mountain on our island and in the Caribbean.
